Patio concrete that looks tired is often just dirty or has worn sealer. Find out whether yours needs a clean, a reseal or new concrete.
Why It Looks Tired
You sit out on a patio or courtyard, so you notice every green patch, grubby corner and dull spot. Shaded and damp areas grow mould and algae first.
A proper clean shows you what the concrete is actually like underneath. If it's sound, you can stop there, or go on to seal it.
If It's Sealed or Decorative
On a sealed or decorative patio, the sealer is a big part of how it looks. When it wears or clouds over, the whole area looks tired even though the concrete is fine.
Worn sealer can be renewed. Peeling or cloudy sealer has to be dealt with first, so the new coat isn't going over a failing one.
Resealing keeps the finish you have. It doesn't change the colour, and it won't bring back colour that has faded.
Cracked Sections and New Patios
Cleaning and sealing don't fix a crack or a broken section. If the damage is limited to one part, that section can be replaced and the rest left alone, though the new concrete won't match the old.
If you want a patio where there isn't one, that's new concrete.
